Card payments on your website

Card payments on your site mean the customer completes the purchase there and then, while they're ready to buy, instead of waiting on a bank slip or cash on delivery. For a shop that has outgrown checking statements by hand, that is the difference between an order and an abandoned basket. The bank runs the process, and we walk you through it — from the application, through bringing the site in line with their conditions, to testing and activation.

Card payment integration for your web shop

Card payment integration is charged separately and is not included in the website packages. The fee per transaction is set by the bank.

How card payments work on a website

The moment a customer clicks to pay, the site hands them over to the bank's page. Card details are entered there, on the bank's system, and never pass through your site or get stored on it. That matters for two reasons: you take on no responsibility for holding sensitive data, and the customer sees a familiar bank name at the exact moment they are most cautious.

Once the bank approves the transaction, the customer returns to your site on a confirmation page and the order is automatically marked as paid. The money reaches the company account on the schedule the bank sets, less commission.

In practice that means less manual work for you. No checking statements to see who has paid, no calling a customer who sent the wrong amount, no parcels coming back because the buyer changed their mind while waiting on cash on delivery.

Who we set up card payments for

Card payments pay off for shops that have outgrown doing it by hand. When you are checking the statement daily to see who has paid, calling customers about the wrong amount, and taking back parcels because the buyer changed their mind while waiting on cash on delivery — the cost of integration comes back quickly.

If you are only now building the shop, see online shop development. Card payments are agreed there as a separate integration.

This is the service where patience with paperwork counts for most, because the bank sets the bulk of the timeline, not us. The clients this goes most smoothly with are those who get their documentation ready in good time and understand that a few weeks waiting on the bank is not us being slow.

If you sell occasionally, a few times a month, it probably isn't worth it — commission and fees eat the benefit. We will tell you that up front rather than take on work you don't need.

The advantages of card payments

A faster process

Buying in a few clicks reduces basket abandonment and lifts sales.

Payment in two instalments

You pay for the integration in two parts: 50% when the plan is approved, 50% once payments are live on your site.

Security

Fraud protection and refund options give both sides security.

More sales

Customers who pay by card complete the transaction more often and place larger orders.

The setup procedure

Application to the bank

An application is submitted to the bank (Raiffeisen, Banca Intesa, NLB Komercijalna banka).

02

Site review

The bank reviews the site and whether it meets every requirement.

03

Testing

The integration is tested with test parameters.

04

Bank review

The bank carries out further testing.

05

Activation

Production parameters are applied and payments go live.

Setup time and supported cards

Our part of the job — integration and testing — takes 3–5 days. The overall timeline is set by the bank: from submitting the application to activation usually takes a few weeks.

Cards supported: Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and DinaCard, plus American Express depending on the bank. PayPal is set up separately from the bank.

What setting up card payments costs

The cost has two parts and it matters to keep them apart. The first is our integration — connecting the site to the bank's system, bringing it in line with the bank's requirements, testing and going live. That is a one-off charge and depends on what the site is built on and how complex the shop is.

The second part is the bank's commission per transaction and any monthly fee. We neither charge nor set that — you agree it directly with the bank. It is worth asking several banks for a quote, because the terms differ and are negotiable, especially if you have turnover you can show.

The advice we give everyone: get quotes from at least three banks before you sign. Half a percentage point of commission over a year can come to more than the cost of the whole integration.

A tip: don't buy with a card tied directly to your current account. Ask the bank for an internet card and move funds across only as needed — that way your accounts stay protected.

Frequently asked questions about card payments

Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and DinaCard, plus American Express depending on what you agree with the bank. PayPal can be added alongside; it runs separately from the bank and is useful for customers abroad.

The technical part takes 3–5 days, but the overall timeline depends on the bank — from submitting the application to activation usually takes a few weeks. Most of the time goes on the site review and the paperwork, so it pays to start earlier than you plan to start selling.

No. The customer enters them on the bank's page, not on your site, and they never pass through your site at all. Responsibility for holding that data stays with the bank.

The bank sets it and it varies from offer to offer. We neither charge it nor influence it. Our advice is to get quotes from at least three banks — the difference can be significant, and the terms are negotiable.

Banks want clearly stated company details, terms of use, a privacy policy, complaints and delivery terms, prices including tax, and a valid SSL certificate. The full list is above on this page, and we check everything before the application is submitted.

You can, but it depends on your contract with the bank and how the company is registered. For customers abroad, PayPal is often the simpler solution and can sit alongside cards.

It works on online shops and on sites with simple service billing. If the site was built on an outdated system, a redesign is sometimes needed before integration is possible at all — we say so up front.

A refund goes through the bank's system and the money returns to the same card. The bank sets the terms and deadlines; your obligation is to state them clearly in the complaints terms on the site.

We recommend keeping both. Some customers in Serbia still choose cash on delivery, and there is no reason to shut them out — cards are there so you don't lose the others.
